2nd St. Stage:

Alright, Junior -- When first you hear Alright, Junior, you may be intangibly tossed into a back in the day vortex, liberating early 90s grunge rock n roll, lathered in crippling Smashing Pumpkins riffs and caliginous Alice in Chains vocals. They have endurance, theres no doubt in that, extolling their engendered appreciation for the last good era of rock music with all the spasmodic moves of an undomesticated bronco.

The Violet Tone --The Violet Tone is an alternative rock band with loud guitars, big drums, and memorable choruses. They recently completed recording their debut EP, Neon Kings & Violet Queens, in Los Angeles, California with Grammy-Nominated Producer/Engineer Luke Tozour (P!nk, Katy Perry, Mika, Jamie Cullum).

Zelazowa --With nearly 600 shows under their belt since 2006, Zelazowa have performed in 48 states and 16 countries, all without label support or corporate sponsorship! From the momentum built by the Soundgarden-meets-Beatles love-child Rest Easy (2005) and the relentless touring that followed, the band has churned out three more EPs/full length albums, each seemingly topping the previous with more volume, more melody, and more ambitious production quality.

Philadelphia, Pa--Find Vienna is a pop/rock blend of all that is good from the 80's until today.

Talain Rayne --When Talain Rayne Blanchon was a senior in high-school he had no piano, no voice, and no clue music would come for his heart like it has. Talains music emanates the creativity and passion of someone whos been writing and playing for much longer than a mere four years. His dynamic personality is reflected in the melodramatic, electronic-infused, pop-rock that is bound together by his characteristic voice. He draws inspiration from varying influences like Sleeping at Last, Coldplay, Sigur Ros, The Rocket Summer, and Shiny Toy.

Cheers Elephant --Their indie-psychedelia is a twisted yet innocent, intricate yet trouble-free collection of fantasia. It's like they sift Jefferson Airplane and Village Green-era Kinks with 13th Floor Elevators and occasionally they'll drop some seriously cacophonous prog-like shit into the mix that makes me think they either have no idea how to play together or they're actually geniuses.

Anita Maj / London, Uk-- Singer/songwriter Anita Maj has a distinct edge to her music--its feisty, with elements of rock and soul. An accomplished songwriter since her early teen years, she was initially inspired by the likes of legends Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix and fearless female frontwomen like PJ Harvey, Chrissie Hynde and Debbie Harry, as well as modern artists including Kings of Leon, The Killers, 30 Seconds to Mars and Muse.

Akua Naru and The Digflo Band Cologne, Germany--With classic boom bap hip hop sounds, socially conscious rhymes, jazz-soul elements, Naru has garnered attention and accumulated rave reviews. Being associated with artist movements such as the 90's hip hop era and acts such as Lauryn Hill & The Roots, Naru's musical and poetic gifts have been appreciated among hip hop circles and are amplified within live performance. Representing strongly when performing with The DIGFLO Band, a six-piece ensemble including drums, keys, saxophone/flute, bass, guitar, and turntables, Akua Naru and her band have a reputation for captivating audiences, hyping crowds, and inspiring many.

Sound Barrier Experience -- Sound Barrier Experience's instinct for insularity is not surprising given the band is made up of legendary skilled musicians who's worked with Sony/BMG, Warner Music Group, and Universal recording artist for years. R&B, Hip Hop and World overtones prevail.

Universal Rebel --Universal Rebel is a Hip Hop-Dub Band. ADEO, founder & emcee, is the co-founder & lead vocalist of RAINation. He has opened up for Kanye West, Common, Talib Kweli, Ludacris, Wyclef, The Roots, Cee-Lo, Julian Marley and an array of other artists.

Peaches & Cream --Dance troupe from Philadelphia gives a special performance at this year's event.

Meg Wilkinson --Growing up singing and performing in musical theatre venues in Metro DC and Denver, and later training and performing in NYC and LA, Meg Wilkinson has returned to her Philly roots of Rock and Roll. Megs electric stage presence and soulful, belting vocals breathes new life in classic rock and roll favorites. Whether performed with her full band, or unplugged, Megs original music is on the cutting edge of where rock and roll is headed.

The 2nd annual Girard Fest is upon us! Thank you to everyone who supported last year's inaugural event to make it a huge success. We're excited to make this September's event even better.

Girard Fest brings together surrounding neighborhoods and cultural groups to celebrate the diversity and revitalization of Girard Ave.! This September's second annual event hosts eclectic multi-genre music booked by Philly F/M Fest, numerous artists and crafters, the city's best food vendors, family fun, and more! The action takes place on Girard (between Front and 2nd St.), Saturday September 24th, beginning at Noon and ending at 8pm.

The Girard Business and Arts Association (GBAA) represents the interests of approximately 120 businesses, property owners and artisans along Girard Liberties, which includes Girard Avenue from Frankford Avenue to Franklin Street. Our goal is to promote this corridor as a favorable economic and cultural destination to live, work, shop, dine and play. The GBAA plans events to improve the safety and appearance of this area and assists in underwriting school art programs within our neighborhood. GirardFest is the Association’s major fund raising effort. It is our goal to solicit corporate support through sponsorships and vendor registration.
